I bought my Tesla Model Y Performance 24 hours ago, and tonight it saved me from a major accident on I-95. This was the first serious near miss I’ve ever experienced while driving. The car’s ability to detect and maneuver out of harm’s way was flawless. It avoided not just the initial hazard, but multiple potential collisions that would have followed if i was driving my rinkey-dinkey 2012 rusk bucket that i traded in. I wasn’t involved in the crash at all and my car didn’t have a single scratch after the fact. I’m genuinely amazed by how well the safety systems performed. Tonight, they earned my trust, and i doubt i’ll ever purchase from another car company. Edit: a few posts have pointed out I disengaged FSD within seconds of the initial crash. I’m still overall impressed with the handling of the car and how smooth everything played out (even if I did the majority of the maneuvering.) My lifted 2012 truck would have had my butthole puckered twice as tight.

As someone who has used computers since the 1970's and been involved in most aspects of the field, I have a 6th sense about some things...and one of them involves why Tesla goes one step forward and one step back. My guess - was that they ran out of computing power and memory. It was only a guess until I looked it up. **"white-hat hackers and researchers have successfully rooted Tesla computers to check their performance, and they found that the self-driving chips run at or near 100% capacity"** This is a BFD. In fact, it explains every single thing and also confirms why critics are much closer to being right....than fans. How many fans have said "they are running out of power"? Tesla cannot have more sensors - because they cannot process the data. Worse yet, they have already claimed that there would be no need for more powerful chips after their next generation....which is almost impossible to believe! The thing is- it appears many (most) Tesla buyers and interested parties don't know the very basics about computing. So when Elon says "We have plenty of power for self-driving and nothing more than HW5 would ever be needed" - he is quoted and believed....against ALL common sense. Worse yet - improvements which might be possible (software only - they have stated few or no hardware changes in sensors, etc.) will ONLY work on HW5 cars. Basically every single Tesla ever sold, by that time probably 9 Million of them, will be incapable of any advances that HW5 allows for. In addition, we know that the raw computing power is not an accurate take...that is, the old story...nature abhors a vacuum and that excess power will be filled up quite quickly with code. The code might already exist....maybe the "robot-taxi" experiments use some of it? Not sure if anyone has ripped apart either an Austin machine or the cybercal. It will be interesting to see what is in the cyber cab because if it is anything short of many times HW4, the thing will not work (high % chance). OK, the Cybercab uses HW4. That means the car will be using 100% of it's computing power to do what regular Teslas do......which isn't anywhere near L4 or L5. What say the computer geeks among us here?

Just picked it up from Carvana and stopped to top up (80%) before I drove home. Carvana is about 80-90 miles away. I had my AC on 72 (it’s hot as fuck out, 103 today) and I was going 80-85 most of the way as the speed limit is 80. I got home with less than 10% on the battery. Is it normal to lose that much range because of heat and speed? I traveled about 90 miles and lost 71% battery. Topped up again when I got home and lost like 3% in the 4 mile drive home. AC on 72 going 65 and then residential. I feel like something is wrong here. How can I check without making a service appointment? If there is something wrong I have 7 days to return it to Carvana. Oh to add: it’s a 2022 Model Y Long Range with about 50k on the odometer, and it was a rental first. Update: Just drove it around slowly for a bit and it seems to be getting a better sense of how to drive. Still 90 degrees here at 10pm.

I drive 130 miles a day to work and fill up every 2-3 days is it the right move just to rid of my gas car and get a Tesla I’ll be able to install a level 2 charger at home. I spend around 700$ on my car right now for gas insurance and monthly oil changes. Man this car drives like nothing else I have witnessed and I have been in amg gt, corvette cadillac vistiq and so on... now that we tried it, the ease of use, the handling, the fsd, the charging, the quietness... im telling you this car will ruin old school car experience... after the demo, we right away traded in one of our cars and ordered model 3 premium, and on our way to get the model y soon too...

I posted here a bit ago to help decide on what car we needed as a family. We settled on needing to replace both of our current cars (Honda civic coupe, Audi Q7). We want to replace with Audi with a Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid, or maybe an Ioniq 9, or an ID Buzz in the future, but it’s out of budget right now. So now we are looking for a 5 seater SUV electric to replace the civic. Given how long Tesla has been in the game, it felt like a safe option, especially with a servicing center only 20 minutes from my house (not Tesla specific but, there are subsidized charging stations at my job! Woohoo!) We are looking into the model Y over the 3 as it has more storage space. Everyone with a Tesla tells us how much they love it, and everyone without one tells us the horrors. What’s the real deal? I am not 100% sold on it, I just want a safe reliable long range commuter car that can fit a car seat. The used ones I’m looking at from dealerships near me (not from Tesla directly) are pretty affordable. Edit: I knew this question would bring up a lot of emotions, I apologize! Really just trying to pick a car that fits our needs. Thank you all! Edit 2: on my last post I shared that we commute 80-100 miles a day, 4x a week, 80 mph highway driving and some back roads, and need to do daycare pickup and drop off. We will be getting a home charger for sure. We live in northeast USA so we have 6 months cold and snow and 6 months heat and strong sun. Occasional road trips planned and I absolutely hate getting gas and adding to my already long commute, hence our choice for an EV! If this helps
